COVID-19 situation update for the EU/EEA and the UK, as of 15 August 2020

Julkaistu 16.8.2020

There have been some questions concerning what kind of rules there are set by the Finnish government and health authorities to enter Finland and travel here for foreigners.

The current and official rule is:

  • 8 new cases per 100 000 population
  • in last 14 days period
  • additional rule especially to be used of people coming from European Union and/or Schengen countries is 10 new cases per 100 000 population
  • also health authories observe where these infections have been received (if it is known) and if there are specific areal clusters which histories are known
  • also local health and safety instructions are taken into the consideration; how effective those are

These countries have had access to enter in Finland without any cross-border regulations such as obligatory or voluntarily quarantine of 14 days or showing COVID-19 infection test: Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, New Zeeland, Norway, Rwanda, San Marino, Slovakia, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vatican . Also in this list includes People’s Republic of China if the country provides similar conditions for EU member citizens to enter in China. All those who attends at Summer Fun Finland Workshop come from these countries, including some company representatives coming from Finland.

.Please find here below list especially European Union and Schengen area countries situation 15.8.2020. Here we have marked countries where there are

  • less than 8 new cases to 100 000 population in light green
  • dark green countries where there are new infections to 100 000 population between 8 and 10
  • orange colour where the numbers are slighly over 10 new cases to 100 000 population, between 10 - 15
  • red colour where the new infections numbers are over 15

We would like you to watch in this statistics 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100 000. There you can see how many infections there have been in average during last 14 days period. Here you can see that from the above list the situation in Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Germany has been worsening. Also countries outside of Europe, in Japan infections have been rising among Japanese younger generation and in Okinawa island. All other countries from the list above are just doing fine.

The Finnish government observes the list every 14 days. Now there have been in discussion to change the procedure to more like ”traffic light system”. We don’t know yet what that would mean. The Finnish government will meet and decide new procedure and possible regulations next Wednesday, 19.8 and announcing those either during the same day or next day, Thursday 20.8 the latest. Normally new rules and regulations are coming to effect the following Monday, which means in our case 24.8.2020. There is a pressure to increase 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100 000 from 8 new cases to 20 new cases, which is common among other European Union countries. Most of the infections what we have got lately are a) Finns coming from the restricted countries from holidays like from Spain, France and Benelux countries and b) people who have recently started reside in Finland, mainly from Balkan countries and they have been seeing their family members and relatives in Balkan in July 2020.

So if you see your home country here below either light or dark green, you shouldn’t worrying about your possible business trip in Finland. 😊

Those who see their home country or where they are residing at the moment either orange or red, we need to follow your cases more carefully. How infections are going down or up in next week and how the Finnish government will set up new regulations next Wednesday. You can contact Mr. Mikael Hasegawa, mikael.hasegawa [at] toolboxtravel.fi and we will check the situation and possible alternative procedure in your case.
