Tunisia – multifaceted tourism destination
ToolBox -travel marketing & consulting has been involved in tourism development in Tunisia. The project was launched in 2017 and it has been included several resorts and companies so far. The idea has been to develop Tunisian incoming tourism. One important focus is golfing but also introducing some new and old theme tours.
Tunis-Carthage airport is not under the Open Sky policy, but international airlines such as Lufthansa and Air France are flying to Tunis. Of course Tunis Air is flying to all Tunisian airports. Habib Bourguiba Airport in Monastit and Enfidha airports are the most popular ones for charter flights.
We created a special “Tunisia Product Manual 2018 – 2019” around the four themes and three destinations in Tunisia. Tunisia is providing good infrastructure for visitors, it is safe after turmoil in past, hotels have excellent quality standards, golf courses are well kept and it is still very affordable for many visitors. The themes what we made are:
Circuit of Golf
Golf Circuit covering Tunis, Sousse-Port El Kantoui and Hammamet. Tours are from 5 to 8 days programme. Hotel categories are from 4 to 5 stars. In Tunis we are using more Gammarth City which located near famous Sidi Bou Said (see picture above) and the ruins of Carthage. The Golf Circuit idea is to travel between 3 cities. There is the oldest golf course located close to Tunis, City of Ariana, “Golf Carthage” This course is having 18 holes and you can club member services when visiting here. The restaurant is very good and it can also host group luncheons and dinners. Golf Carthage is not far away from the ruins of Carthage, city of Gammarth or Sidi Bou Said.
Other golf courses are in Port El Kantaoui and golfers are either staying at hotels located in Port El Kantaoui (walking distance from the golf course) or in Sousse, which is the biggest city in South Sahel area. There is 10 minutes drive from Sousse to Port El Kantoui.
Hammamet is hosting third part of this Golf Circuit tour and it is known also of it’s cozy atmosphere. Hammamet is having 2 different golf courses.
Safari in Sahara
Those who have been visiting in Tunisia earlier, knows the possibilities to discover Tunisia also from Saharian side. The tour created for today is covering also former and current oasis located on the way to Sahara. At the same time one can see how very fertile soil is changing to sand. The highlights of the tour are visits at El Jem amphiteatre, Gabes oasis, Matmata (moon view, cave people), dawn camel safari in Sahara, overnight in Sahara, Tozeur oasis town, Chott-el Jerid salty sea, Gafsa mining town and Kairouan. There two options for this tour; either 2 days OR 3 days programme.
UNESCO Cultural Heritage tour
Tunisia holds several sites which are enlisted under the UNESCO Cultural or Natural Heritage programmes. Those are: Amphiteatre of El Jem (year 1979, second biggest in the world after Colosseo in Rome); Archaeological site of Carthage (1979), Dougga (1979, beautifully reserved site of old Roman empire), Kairouan (1988, the most religious city in Tunisia, magnificent mosque and minaret is one site worth to visit there), Medina of Sousse (1988, medina = centre), Medina of Tunis (1979), Punic Town of Kerkuane and it’s Necropolis (1985, necropolis = graveyard) and Ichekku National Park (1980). This Grand Tour in Tunisia takes 8 days (for example Sunday to Sunday)
Wine Tour in Tunisia
Yes, Tunisia is producing wines. Most Tunisian grapes are the same as the ones you would find in the south of France, like Cabernet-Sauvignon, Carignon, Syrah and Mourvèdre for red wines, and Chardonnay, Muscat, Ugni and Sauvignon for whites. The agronomist Mago that lived in the city of Carthage, wrote a treaty about agronomy and viticulture, from which its techniques are still used until this day. Despite the arrival of a Muslim power since the 7th century AD, viticulture and wine production never quite disappeared from Tunisia.
The Wine Tour in Tunisia is for 5 days. You can visit in different wineries, which are mainly located in Northern part of the country. Each day there is a new winery to be visited and the tour includes also the main sightseeing spots in the area. The tour is including half board. The most famous wineries are: Grand Cru Mornag, Mornag, Coteau de Tébourba, Sidi Salem, Kélibia, Thibar and Côteaux d’Utique.
