The Finnish government is once again tightening restrictions on entry and border traffic. New restrictions related to internal border control will take effect on 27 January. Those are hereby effective on until 25.2. The changes aim to reduce cross-border traffic in order to prevent the spread of new coronavirus variants.

The Government bulletin justifies the tightenings on the grounds that the disease situation in Finland differs considerably from other Schengen countries, and thus the risk posed by passengers to the spread of virus variants in Finland is significant. Entry on the basis of employment is limited to what is necessary. At internal borders, only commuting necessary for security of supply and the functioning of society and certain specifically mentioned groups are allowed as commuting. Entry is allowed on the relevant form filled in by the employer.
