Australia has announced the reopening of its borders to vaccinated tourists and other visa holders for the first time in almost two years 21.2.2022.

Australians, as long-haul travellers, tend to travel in Europe for longer periods of time. Travelling in Europe for one month or even longer is not unusual. The average length of stay in the Nordic countries is 12 days. The average length of stay for foreign trips is 21 days. The reason for this is the long distance from the Australian continent to almost anywhere in the world, and their four-week holidays. The population of Australia is almost 25 million and 5,8 million Australians travel abroad every year.  Most popular destinations are Great Britain, Italy and France. Their global rank, when it comes to international tourism expenditures, is 8.

There are several options for flying from Australia to the Nordic countries. The Middle Eastern airline connections to the Nordic countries have resulted in an increase of Australian visitors in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Greenland and Iceland have become increasingly popular and are considered new interesting destinations for Australians. The remaining Scandinavian countries and Finland have also become increasingly popular. River cruises in Russia have traditionally been popular among "Aussies". The Baltic countries are considered interesting new markets but have a need for more players who conduct business with the Australian travel trade. 


Real GDP is projected to grow by 3.8 % in 2021, 4.1 % in 2022 and 3 % in 2023. The economy is recovering as strict containment measures first imposed in some states in mid-2021 have now been lifted. As the recovery continues, labour market conditions will improve and spare capacity will be absorbed. Wage and price pressures will subsequently build, even though they are expected to remain contained.
