MARKET OVERVIEW

Global rank for international tourism expenditure: 19th. Swedish consumers are comfortable using the Internet to book travel, and consider themselves to be experienced international travellers. Sweden is the world’s 20th most valuable source market for international tourism. More than eight of the population lives in the capital Stockholm. The key centres for travel trade are Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo. Seven-in-ten Swedes look at reviews on the Internet before the book their holidays. The most common places are search engines (88 %) and contacting company directly (87 %). For neighboring countries ferry/cruise companies play important role as distribution channels.

Swedish economy slows – budget prospects weaken. Sweden's central government finances will weaken in the coming years as the economy slows down. ... The growth of the Swedish economy is expected to slow from 2.3 per cent last year to 1.6 per cent in both 2019 and 2020.
