Southern Asia and South-East Asia

Our only target market area in South Asia is India. Still  an undeveloped country but with many millionaires. Our target market areas in India are mainly in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

In South-East Asia the focus is mainly on what goes on at ITB Asia in Singapore. We also recommend to look at the markets in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

India

MARKET OVERVIEW

Indian people are one of the most remarkable travel group, together with the Chinese. The Nordic countries brand is gradually getting more known among local tour operators. The flight connections of Finnair support this. There are around 70 000-80 000 bed nights from India to Finland per year. Two-third of the population in India still lives in rural areas, but the urban middle class is now estimated at 300 million, 2,4 million of whom have wealth greater than $ 100,000.

ECONOMY

After the second infection wave that peaked in May, the recovery is gaining momentum and GDP is projected to grow at 9.4% in fiscal year (FY) 2021-22 before reverting to 8.1% in FY 2022-23 and 5½ per cent in FY 2023-24. Inflation has remained close to the upper band of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), but should ebb as supply chain disruptions are overcome. Financial markets remain strong and capital inflows support the build-up in reserves. The appearance of a new virus variant, especially if combined with a relaxation of attitudes, is the major downside risk, together with a less supportive global economic and financial environment.

WE RECOMMEND

  • Sales visits to the destination
  • Get focused on tour operators
  • Media and PR
  • FAM trips and media visits in Finland
  • Cross-marketing
  • SATTE Travel Fair in New Delhi
