Alibaba Group makes China paper free online
Alibaba Group is an owner of South China Morning Post. Alibaba Group removed they paywall on the newspaper’s online and mobile editions, signalling an emphasis on generating more traffic. Analysis say the purchase also shows Alibaba’s desire to use peripheral media assets to generate more ads and push traffic to its e-commerce platforsm and broaden its entertainment presence. The South China Morning Post has in it’s internet site more than 2,5 million users a month. Along with South China Morning Post, Alibaba acquired the HOng Kong editions of Esquire, Elle and Cosmopolitan. Some anlysts say such publications help bring higher-end consumers to Alibba’s e-commerce platforms.
