SAS Invests Heavily in Long-Haul Operations – Its Largest Investment Ever
SAS is taking the next step in its long-term growth strategy by announcing the largest investment in the airline’s 80-year history. The order includes up to 40 Airbus long-haul aircraft, combining new A330-900neo aircraft with additional A330-300s to secure capacity ahead of the delivery of the new fleet. The order has a list value of more than USD 10 billion.
The new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft are expected to become the backbone of SAS’s future long-haul operations. According to Airbus technical specifications, the aircraft consumes approximately 25% less fuel per seat than the previous generation while offering a longer range and significantly lower noise levels.
The announcement coincides with SAS’s 80th anniversary. Since its founding in 1946, the airline has played a key role in connecting Scandinavia with the rest of the world. According to SAS, Copenhagen Airport will remain at the heart of this strategy. By strengthening its hub in Copenhagen, the airline aims to improve access to international markets, stimulate trade and tourism, and attract investment across the Øresund Region and throughout Scandinavia.
