Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service free of charge

Our business partner, Lufthansa Group announced something very interesting:

Lufthansa Group will begin rolling out its new Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service on August 19. The first aircraft to receive Starlink connectivity will be a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo.

The service will be free of charge for all Miles & More members and Lufthansa Group Travel ID users, regardless of travel class.

According to the company, Starlink connectivity will enable passengers to use video streaming services, work with cloud-based applications, and access other services requiring high data-transfer speeds during the flight. Lufthansa Group estimates that in many cases, the connection may be faster than a passenger’s internet connection at home or in the office.

Starlink will next be installed on aircraft operated by SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines. Preparations are also underway at ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings.

Lufthansa Group aims to install Starlink on approximately 850 aircraft across all of its airlines by 2029. According to the company, this will be the largest Starlink rollout among European airline groups.

The service will also come with new rules. Passengers will be required to use headphones when watching audio or video content, and voice or video calls as well as live streaming will not be permitted during the flight.

Mastercard will sponsor the new Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi service. Mastercard has also been a partner of the Group’s previous FlyNet service.
